The islands of Hawaii are huge.
Most people that go to Hawaii run into the common problem of overpaying and eventually spend most of their money on their trip. Most of these people have spent their money on hotels or popular tours which in fact don't even need to happen. As calculated by Hawaii's visitor industry in 2015, there were more than 8.6 million visitor arrivals and total spending's of more than $15 billion in just that year alone. Renting a house for your trip can be so much less expensive, plus you do not need to worry about the rush of tourists where ever you go. During my trip to Hawaii that I had about a month or so ago, we spent so much less money by staying in a house than we did if we were in a hotel. Plus because you are in Hawaii, it is beautiful no matter where you stay.
There is a lot you can do wherever you go in Hawaii, thus why you can reduce the cost of your trip by thousands yet still live the Hawaiin lifestyle on your vacation.

The difference between these two pictures is that you can find just as much beauty and even more if you were to adventure away from popular tourist locations. Finding a small house to live in would be just a fraction of the cost it would be if you were to stay in a hotel.

In 2006, as you can see in the graph calculated by Hawaii Travel guide, millions of tourists traveled to Hawaii which accounts for so many people and money that was spent towards the many hotel reservations that were made. It is now 2017, 11 years later, so as you could probably guess there were a lot of people in the year of 2016 as well as during this year which shows how popular Hawaii has come. Meaning more $$ for the big guys.
